Job Summary

The Team
The Scaling Officer position is part of the Rocky Mountain District Revenue Team, which is essential to Timber Pricing in BC. Our team includes seasoned Forest Professionals specializing in Cruising, Scaling, and Waste, all working together to set stumpage rates, measure timber, and forecast forest revenue. We play a crucial role in translating government policies into actionable timber pricing procedures and serve as the link between the government, the forest sector, and the public on various timber pricing issues.

The Role
As a Scaling Officer, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring timber is accurately valued and that the Crown receives appropriate revenue from harvested resources. You'll conduct check scales and site inspections, participate in scaling and waste communities of practice, and administer the District Waste Program. This role is where policy meets practice, ensuring that timber is properly scaled, billed, and managed according to provincial standards. Your work will directly impact the integrity of timber pricing and the sustainability of our forest resources.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid Interior Scaler licence with required endorsements
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of related Interior scaling operational experience.
  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which includes a criminal records check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry.


Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
  • Experience in Waste and Residue Surveys.
  • Five or more years of related Interior scaling operational experience.
  • Supervisory experience.


Willingness statement
  • Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions, in remote areas, and withstand the rigours of fieldwork.

About this Position:

Amendment September 5, 2024: posting closing date extended to September 19, 2024.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up a few days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
