Overview

The Technology Infrastructure and Operations department in Information Technology Services (ITS) is responsible for operating and supporting core IT infrastructure and services at KPMG in Canada. The department provides level 2/3 support, operates a 24x7 Network Operations Centre (NOC), and manages Cloud and national Data Centers. The department is also responsible for Access / Identity Management, Change Management, Incident Management and Problem Management.

What you will do
  • Provides third-level support for cloud-based infrastructure, focusing on both virtual and physical hardware, software, operating systems, and applications.
  • Collaborates with business and system owners to maintain and enhance cloud-based business applications and systems.
  • Acts as a bridge between business requirements and cloud technology, offering recommendations for future cloud-centric directions.
  • Updates documentation and maintains core cloud infrastructure systems using Infrastructure as a Code (IaC) principles.
  • Works with Cloud Architects and project teams to transition new cloud technologies and services to the production environment. May lead cloud implementations or upgrades or provide details as the Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Tests and evaluates cloud hardware and software for efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems using a virtual environment.
  • May write technical specifications for cloud services to send to vendors for bid.
  • Collaborates with the Security team to ensure the integrity of cloud components and processes.
  • Works with cloud vendors and service providers to ensure they are meeting service levels.
  • Coaches and mentors peers, Systems Specialists, and Operations team in cloud-centric concepts and Infrastructure as a Code (IaC) principles to build and strengthen capabilities within ITS.
  • Acts as an ambassador for cloud-centric concepts, providing presentations and training on next-generation network concepts.
  • Facilitates project delivery through research and working with Architecture, vendors, and service providers
  • Liaises with and maintains relationships with key vendors, technical groups and organizations that are necessary to remain current with relevant technology and techniques.
  • Tests and evaluates software, hardware and systems for integration and supportability with other core firm infrastructure.
  • Plans and implements operational upgrades, patches, and major system changes annually.
  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and documents problems according to defined policies.
  • This is an experienced independent contributor with no budgetary or supervisory accountability. Subject Matter Experts (SME) for more complex and difficult programs and applications. Accountable for project work as well as troubleshooting of issues.
What you bring to the role
  • A university degree in mathematics or computer science or other related discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional experience and 5+ years of IT experience in system implementation, project, and systems management.
  • 5 years of experience with cloud platforms and services such as IaaS, PaaS and SaaS, preferably with Azure and AWS Cloud (GCP is an asset)
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of network protocols: HTTP/HTTPS, REST, SOAP, DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, IPv4/IPv6, FTP/SFTP, ICMP, OAuth, OpenID, EIGRP, BGP, and IPSEC, network technologies: SD-WAN/LAN: MPLS, Ethernet, Wireless, VPN, SSL, Quality of Service, VOIP, and network security appliances / applications (SSL/TLS), vulnerability scanning tools, processes, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of IaC principles and tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Chef is desirable for automating the setup and deployment of infrastructure. Knowledge of CI/CD principles and tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI.
  • Strong understanding of network management and observability, using tools such as SNMP, LiveNX, NetFlow and other cloud-based solutions.
