The Role
As a Planning Forester, you'll play a key role in analyzing and producing data to support the development of comprehensive resource and operational plans, particularly the Forest Stewardship Plan. You'll be responsible for ensuring that planning strategies align with legislative, consultation, and certification requirements while collaborating with field professionals in timber development, harvesting, engineering, and silviculture. Building strong relationships with Indigenous Peoples, resource partners, and Ministrycontacts will be a rewarding and essential part of your role.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or be eligible for registration as an RPF with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) andtwo (2)years of experience in operational field forestry activities.

Operational field forestry activities include the following:
    • Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
    • Cut-block development
    • Forest road engineering
    • Silviculture
    • Timber tenure development and administration
    • Planning integrated resource management
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Directly related planning and integrated resource management experience.
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples.
  • Coursework or experience incontract or financial administration.

About this Position:
This position can be based out of either of the locations listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill temporary and permanent vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Skeena Business Area, Hazelton or Terrace.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.

You must be registered as a Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC), or able to transfer a current membership to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Applicants currently registered with FPBC as an Allied Science Forester in Training (ASFIT) or Forester in Training (FIT), or able to transfer their current ASFIT/FIT membership to FPBC within six (6) months, may be considered for this position at the Licensed Science Officer 1A level. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
